The 8.000-member Amazon Labor Union is the only certified workers organization in the country representing Amazon employees, but there are growing factions within that union who are not in agreement with its leadership.
On Monday, a group of those dissidents filed a complaint in federal court demanding that the union hold a vote to determine new leadership.
The current leadership took office in April 2022 union on promises to negotiate a new contract, but no such negotiations have yet begun.
The opposition caucus has said that fresh elections were due in March of this year, but that the ALU and its president, Christian Smalls, have “refused to hold officer elections.”
