Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian has made a public statement following Monday’s terrifying crash in Toronto which left passengers suspended upside-down in their seats.
“The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport,” Bastian stated. “I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and the first responders on site. We are working to confirm the details and will share the most current information on news.delta.com as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe.”
While the cause of the Delta crash remains unknown, snow and strong wind gusts of 40 mph are believed to have affected the plane during its landing.
Delta Connection flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air with a CRJ-900 aircraft, was involved in the crash. The plane departed from Minneapolis, Minnesota, carrying 76 passengers and four crew members. According to Peel Regional Paramedic Services, at least 18 people on board were injured.
Late Monday evening, Delta’s incident response team deployed specially trained Delta Care Team and members of Endeavor Air’s leadership team, including CEO Jim Graham.
Endeavor Air is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines headquartered in Minneapolis.
The crash occurred as Delta celebrates 100 years of service, following the company’s most successful financial year ever.
