Donald Trump praises “America’s extraordinary prosperity” at Davos.
President Donald Trump took the stage for 30 minutes at the World Economic Forum’s 50th annual summit in Davos and called climate activists “
He also took credit for a soaring stock market, a low unemployment rate, a “blue-collar boom” in jobs and income, and credited his administration’s focus on “improving the lives of everyday Americans.” The Trump speech was seen as a message to US voters instead of a needed message towards climate change action.
In an interview with The Associated Press at the World Economic Forum, Greenpeace’s international executive director, Jennifer Morgan, says that U.S. President Donald Trump’s lack of focus on environmental issues will hit him where it hurts – money. Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz slammed U.S. President Donald Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum for misrepresenting the economy and for failing to tackle climate issues.
According to Star Tribune, his presence was met with almost total silence from the crowd, unlike his last speech in Davos in 2018, when he was met with occasional boos and laughter.
According to The Washington Post reporting, several company leaders were present during the Trump speech, which included Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzman, Ken Griffin, the billionaire CEO of Citadel; Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga; Visa CEO Al Kelly; Moody’s CEO Raymond McDaniel; and Alan MacDonald, a top executive at Citi, as well as major GOP donor Sheldon Adelson; former American International Group chief Hank Greenberg, and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz.
