Boeing CEO David Calhoun is scheduled to appear today before the Senate investigations subcommittee, where he will answer questions from lawmakers about the company’s recent safety problems and how it plans to fix them through manufacturing.
The subcommittee chair, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, is a known Boeing critic. This appearance from Calhoun marks the first time a high-ranking Boeing official has appeared before Congress since a door panel in a 737 Max blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight in January.
“From the beginning, we took responsibility and cooperated transparently with the NTSB and the FAA,” Calhoun said. “Our culture is far from perfect, but we are taking action and making progress. We are taking comprehensive action today to strengthen safety and quality.”
Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting their own investigations into Boeing.
