Arvind Krishna takes over as CEO of IBM, replacing Ginni Rometty.
Arvind Krishna, who joined IBM Company in 1990, has been appointed as the new chief executive of International Business Machines (IBM) in a pivotal time, and not just because of the coronavirus pandemic, but, because according to CNBC, Big Blue no longer towers over the technology landscape the way it did a generation ago.
Before joining the list of CEOs of Indian Origin, Krishna worked on IBM’s renowned research and business unit that helps the organization in the cloud and data platform, becoming a driving force behind its $34 billion acquisition of Red Hat in 2018,
The new IBM CEO, who completed his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, did not prepare for a speech at the company’s Armonk, New York headquarters, instead, he wrote an email to employees Monday morning saying he will focus on artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud as key technologies for the future.
“If there’s one thing that this public health crisis has brought to light it is the ever essential role of IBM in the world. We are the backbone of some of the most critical systems,” he wrote. “Today, more than ever, trust is our license to operate.”
