This summer, travelers are seeking relief from the extreme heat, flocking to beach escapes around the world. With searches related to “extreme heat” at an all-time high last month, it’s no surprise that travelers are looking for ways to beat rising temperatures. In fact, according to a recent consumer poll conducted by Panterra, beach vacations are the number one choice for travelers planning their next getaway, with nearly half of respondents naming the beach as their top destination type.

Saquarema, Brazil

Surf’s up in Saquarema, where searches this summer have soared more than 170 percent compared to last. Anchored by Praia das Pedras de Itaúna, nicknamed Brazil’s “Surf Capital”, this mellow beach town delivers world-class breaks that have become a  pro surfer paradise. 

New Shoreham, RI, United States

With searches surging nearly 160 percent this summer compared to last, Block Island has emerged as a standout destination in the Northeast.3Guests can bike along dune-lined roads to the North Lighthouse, spot seals, and enjoy quiet beaches like Mansion and Coast Guard Beach. Sleepy in the off-season but buzzing with summer energy, this laid-back island pairs postcard-perfect scenery with the simple joy of birds, beaches, and bikes.

Conil de la Frontera, Spain

Conil de la Frontera, nestled on Andalusia’s laid-back Atlantic coast, is capturing travelers’ attention- with searches increasing over 140 percent this summer compared to last. From family-friendly beaches like Playa de La Fontanilla, to secluded coves such as Calas de Roche, this destination boasts no shortage of sunshine and crystal clear water.

Palermo, Italy

Travel to the celebrity hotspot of Palermo, where the coastline combines rich history with Caribbean-blue beaches just beyond the city center. This summer, searches for the Sicilian capital’s shores have increased over 90 percent, a testament to its rising popularity. Beach lovers can choose from Mondello, renowned for its soft sandy shores and crystal-clear water; Capo Gallo Reserve, a haven for those seeking hidden coves and exceptional snorkeling; or Isola delle Femmine, where calm waters invite peaceful paddling and relaxation.

Hossegor, France

France’s Atlantic coast comes alive in Hossegor, where searches have increased over 70 percent this summer compared to last. Experienced surfers flock to the legendary barrels of La Gravière, while those seeking gentler rides can enjoy the mellow longboard waves farther north at Le Penon. With its inviting beachfront cafés and wide promenades perfect for exploration, Hossegor sets the scene for an unforgettable French beach escape.

Northumberland, United Kingdom

Northumberland is drawing more summer visitors, with searches up over 50 percent this summer, thanks to its pristine North Atlantic beaches and peaceful countryside stays. Golden sands stretch beneath iconic castles like Bamburgh and Embleton Bay, while quiet coves invite relaxation or seaside strolls. After a day by the sea, guests can unwind in one of the area’s many cozy countryside cottages, and soak in Northumberland’s timeless coastal charm.

Fukuoka, Japan

Fukuoka is quickly gaining traction as a summer beach retreat, with summer searches up over 50 percent compared to last year. With a dozen beaches within reach of the city, travelers can choose from lively, family-friendly spots like Seaside Momochi, or hop a quick ferry to the peaceful sands of Nokonoshima Island.
