In an effort to keep up with demand, the U.S. Department of State will open six new passport agencies across America, bringing the total number of centers to 35.
Agencies are scheduled to open in Salt Lake City, Utah; Kansas City, Missouri; Orlando, Florida; Charlotte, North Carolina; San Antonio, Texas; and Cincinnati, Ohio. However, it’s not certain yet when the agencies will be open.
“More Americans can travel abroad today than at any time in our history,” said a statement from the the State Department wrote in a statement. The new agencies “reflect our commitment to provide prompt customer services to more Americans closer to where they live.”
Recently, the State Department began allowing travelers to submit passport renewal applications online, which was first offered in 2022 but was put on pause. Those who currently live in America and hold passports issued between 2009 and 2015 are eligible for the online service.
