U.S. airline Southwest Airlines has fostered a reputation for being one of the most plus-sized friendly air carriers in the United States thanks to its decades-old policies.
According to Southwest, any plus-sized passenger can receive an adjacent empty seat on their flight for free, so long as the seat isn’t occupied by another passenger.
The airline recommends that plus-sized passengers notify Southwest of their needs ahead of time and purchase an adjacent seat ahead of time, which the airline guarantees will be refunded post-trip.
“We’ve had a long-standing policy for more than 30 years designed to meet the seating needs of customers who require more than one seat and protect the comfort and safety of everyone onboard,” said Southwest.
