Cornwall and the Lake District – The Booming New Sleeper Train in the UK
Share on LinkedinShare on WhatsApp

The Britannic Explorer is set to make its debut on July 4th, 2025, offering travelers an exclusive opportunity to explore the English and Welsh countryside in the utmost luxury. As Britain’s first-ever luxury sleeper train, this new venture aims to reimagine the art of slow travel, offering a modern take on the classic British tradition of touring. This initiative by Belmond—which also operates the Orient Express—introduces a different kind of railway experience, one that is focused not on the speed of travel, but on the luxury of the journey itself.

A Journey Through Iconic Landscapes

Passengers will have the chance to experience some of the most scenic regions of the UK, from the mystical Lake District to the rugged coastlines of Cornwall and the stunning national parks of Wales. The train offers three different three-night itineraries, each designed to highlight the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of these regions.

  1. The Lake District: Known for its idyllic lakes, lush hills, and majestic peaks, the Lake District is widely considered one of the UK’s finest natural wonders. This three-day itinerary begins on a Friday and concludes on Monday, allowing travelers to unwind in luxury while immersing themselves in the region’s serene landscape. The journey includes sustainable cuisine served in a refined dining car, and guests can relax in private sleeper cabins that convert from day lounges to cozy double beds at night.
  2. Wales: The next journey heads through the picturesque Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) and the dramatic Pembrokeshire coast. This Welsh adventure departs on a Monday afternoon and wraps up on Thursday morning, offering travelers a taste of quaint villages, green valleys, and pristine natural beauty. Passengers can enjoy a cocktail in the Observation Car before disembarking for exciting excursions through charming Welsh towns. However, due to planned engineering works in the autumn, some routes may be altered.
  3. Cornwall: The third package explores the coastal beauty of Cornwall, known for its sandy shores and dramatic cliffs. This trip departs on Friday afternoon and returns on Monday morning. Cornish landscapes will come to life through the windows of the luxury train, offering a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore this stunning part of Britain in the lap of comfort.

Lavish Accommodations on Board

The Britannic Explorer boasts three luxurious Grand Suites: Elder, Valerian, and Juniper. Each suite features a unique botanical design and comes equipped with a full-length mirror, a marble dining table, and plenty of space to unwind.

An Exclusive Slow Travel Experience

This new form of slow travel not only promises luxury and relaxation but also provides an opportunity to explore the heart of Britain at a slower pace. While modern travel tends to prioritize speed and convenience, the Britannic Explorer seeks to remind travelers of the value of taking time to savor the journey, rather than rushing toward the destination.

By choosing to travel aboard the Britannic Explorer, guests can fully immerse themselves in the stunning views, the rich cultural experiences, and the refined comfort of the train. This approach to tourism is expected to have a significant impact on the future of the travel industry, particularly in terms of promoting sustainable, luxury, and cultural experiences. The trend of slow travel has been gaining popularity in recent years, as more travelers seek unique, immersive experiences that prioritize relaxation over the frenetic pace of modern life.
