More than 20 nations are reportedly banding together to triple nuclear energy production by the year 2050 in order to curb the effects of climate change.
The coalition includes the United States, Canada, France, Japan and the United Kingdom, among others.
The nations will need to produce 900 gigawatts by 2050 in order to reach their carbon-free emissions goal, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“Nuclear power that adheres to the highest standards of safety, sustainability, security, and non-proliferation has a key role to play in keeping 1.5 C within reach,” U.S. climate envoy John Kerry.
