On Tuesday, technology giant Google announced that its geothermal project successfully deployed carbon-free energy to power Google data centers on the Nevada grid.
Google began working on the project, which is purportedly capable of supplying 3.5-megawatts of energy to the grid, with Fervo Energy back in 2021.
Fervo is currently developing another geothermal plant with a 400-megawatt capacity in Utah.
“I think it will be big and it will continue to vault geothermal into a lot more prominence than it has been,” said Fervo CEO Tim Latimer about his company’s collaboration with Google.
