According to New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, Friday’s massive flash flood in New York City is going to be the metropolis’s “new normal” as climate change continues developing.
The torrential downpours caused nearly eight inches of water to accumulate on the city’s streets, turning thoroughfares into rivers and forcing many public transportation lines to shut down.
As a result, Hochul issued a state of emergency for the week in order to distribute resources to areas in need more efficiently.
“This is unfortunately what we have to expect as the new normal,” said Hochul on Saturday.
