This is Bill Gate’s read-list of 2017.

For several years, Bill Gates has been choosing his favorite books of the year, and 2017 was not the exception.

The co-founder of Microsoft — a man worth an estimated $90 billion — has stated he reads about 50 books a year as it helps him learn new things and test his ability to understand.

So, without any further ado, here are Gates’s top readings of 2017 according to his blog:

Gates’s picks of 2017
  1. Joby Warrick’s book “Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS” was Bill’s first choice.

Bill recommends this thrilling dramatic narrative to anyone who wants a compelling history lesson on how ISIS managed to seize power in Iraq.

Joby Warrick is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

2. Number two for Bill is John Green’s new novel, “Turtles All the Way Down”.

This book speaks on mental illness while a young woman tracks down fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett.

The New York Times defines it as “A wrenching and revelatory novel.”

3. Bill Gates was intrigued on reading on forces preventing economic mobility in the U.S.

This took him to pick up “The Color of Law” by Richard Rothstein.

In it, Rothstein argues how segregation in America is the byproduct of explicit government policies at the local, state, and federal levels.

The book was designated one of ten finalists on the National Book Awards’ long list for the best nonfiction book of 2017.

4. The 4th choice questions: how well do we really know our parents?

Gates’s fourth choice was a graphic novel by Thi Bui named “The Best We Could Do”.

The novel results in a deeply personal memoir that explores what it means to be a parent and a refugee after the author’s family fled Vietnam in 1978.

“Any parent will recognize many of the challenges her mom and dad faced raising their four kids”, Bill says.

5. “Energy and Civilization: A History” is another one of top lectures of 2017.

Although Bill explains you’ll feel smarter and better informed about how energy innovation alters the course of civilizations.
