More than 250 musicians, including Green Day, Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews, Cyndi Lauper and Sia, signed a letter to the Senate Commerce Committee, urging it to support The Fans First Act, which would reform the live-event ticketing system.
Introduced in December, the Act takes aim at three issues: ticket transparency, consumer protection and preventing exorbitant resale prices. The letter was organized by Fix the Tix, a group of live event industry organizations fronted by the National Independent Venue Association and Eventbrite.
The letter comes after years of frustration with the ticket industry, including Ticketmaster. In 2022, fans sued the ticketing company after it failed to keep up with the demand for Taylor Swift’s recent Eras Tour—though Swift herself did not sign the letter.
“The time for comprehensive ticketing reform is now,” said Stephen Parker, executive director for the National Independent Venue Association in a statement. “It is clear that all participants of the live event ecosystem, from artists, to venues, to fans, demand comprehensive ticketing reform and consumer protection against the predatory ticket resale practices that have deeply afflicted live entertainment in the United States.”
