Beyoncé can add a new accomplishment to her resume—with the release of her new country single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” she becomes the first Black woman to reach the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. Another twangy tune, “16 Carriages,” is also No. 9 on the country chart.
BMore than 50 years ago, another Black woman—Linda Martell—established the record on the country charts when her song, “Color Him Father” reached No. 22. Both songs are part of the superstar’s upcoming country album, which was announced just after her Verizon commercial debuted during the Super Bowl. The record will drop on March 29.
But, wait—Beyoncé has also made history as the first woman to hit No. 1 on both Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. Just four other musicians—all men—have hit that milestone: Morgan Wallen, Justin Bieber, Billy Ray Cyrus and Ray Charles.
Additionally, Beyoncé’s songs have charted on Billboard’s Hot 100, with “Texas Hold ‘Em” peaking at No. 2 and “16 carriages” reaching No. 38. The former is her 22nd top 10 single on this general chart, Billboard said.
