The board of AI innovator OpenAI is considering dividing the company into for-profit and non-profit arms, according to wire services.
The change comes as the company seeks $6.5bn of new funding, according to the reports
In an apparently related event chief technology officer Mira Murati left the company abruptly as part of a recent exodus of senior figures, some motivated by worries over the safety of the products OpenAI is developing. Two other senior researchers also resigned on Wednesday.
Some estimates indicate that OpenAI will head for a new valuation of $150bn in a for-profit context, as it continues to update its products.
