The White House on Tuesday announced a final rule that increases the salary requirements for exempting salaried employees from federal overtime pay laws to nearly $59,000. The threshold will rise to nearly $44,000 in July, with the final salary of $58,656 in January 2025.
The rule will “restore the promise to workers that if you work more than 40 hours in a week, you should be paid more for that time,” said Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su in a statement.
As part of the final rule, these salary thresholds will be updated every three years by using up-to-date wage information to determine new levels.
“Too often, lower-paid salaried workers are doing the same job as their hourly counterparts but are spending more time away from their families for no additional pay,” Su said. “That is unacceptable.”
