U.S. automaking giant General Motors is laying off approximately 1,300 employees across two of its Michigan production plants, the company reported in a state filing.
The staffing slashes, which are expected to be implemented at the beginning of 2024, will affect workers at GM’s Orion Assembly and Lansing Grand River Assembly plants.
The filing states that 945 employees will be laid off from the Orion plant while another 369 workers will be cut from Lansing Grand River.
According to GM, laid-off Lansing Grand River workers “be offered other opportunities in Michigan, including positions at Factory ZERO in Detroit-Hamtramck. Orion Assembly salaried employees will also be placed in other internal opportunities in accordance with GM policy.”
