Elon Musk tweeted on X that Federal aviation Authority Chief Mike Whitaker should resign after the authority proposed a $633,000 fine against the billionaire’s Space X.
“They launched without a permit,” Whitaker said in a hearing before a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee, referring to SpaceX launches in June and July of 2023. “It’s the only tool we have to get compliance on safety matters … I think safety is in the public interest, and that’s our primary focus.”
The fine was related to failure to get approval to revise the communications plan for the June 2023 launch. The FAA has also questioned conerns regarding timely sonic boon analysis for its Starship 5 launch, delaying eventual licensing until November.
“America is being smothered by legions of regulators, often indept and politically driven,” wrote Musk on X.
