Popular language learning application DuoLingo has laid off around 10% of its contracted workers, the company reported Tuesday.
According to DuoLingo, the move comes as the company aims to integrate more artificial intelligence solutions into its application operations, though DuoLingo spokespersons noted that all AI-generated work will still be checked by human staffers.
“We are not swapping the expertise of human experts for AI,” said DuoLingo. “AI is a tool we are using to increase productivity and efficiency, to add new content, and improve our courses faster so that we can continue to teach to higher levels of proficiency.”
DuoLingo currently boasts more than 24.2 million active daily users and approximately 5.8 million paid subscribers.
