The U.S. Internal Revenue Service reportedly notified technology giant Microsoft that it owes an additional $28.9 million in back taxes, the company revealed Wednesday in an 8-K filing.
Microsoft claims the IRS has failed to take into account the $10 billion in taxes the company has paid during its adjustments.
“Microsoft disagrees with these proposed adjustments and will pursue an appeal within the IRS, a process expected to take several years,” said the company in its filing.
“We believe we have always followed the IRS’s rules and paid the taxes we owe in the U.S. and around the world,” continued Microsoft.
