On Tuesday, technology giant Meta began removing its Canadian users’ access to news content on its primary social media platforms, Instagram and Facebook.
Meta’s news removal started on Tuesday and is expected to continue rolling out in the weeks ahead.
The move comes ahead of the enactment of a new Canadian law that will require social media platforms to negotiate payments with news organizations to host their content on social media platforms.
Google is also anticipated to remove its news features for Canadian users before the law takes effect in December.
