Technology giant Meta is banning the use of its artificial intelligence tools for political ads run across the company’s social media platforms, Meta announced Tuesday.
The new restrictions will prevent political ads from benefiting from AI that can suggest changes to heighten an ad’s effectiveness, change the ad’s background, add 3D effects or create marketing text.
The move comes following political pressure on Meta to restrict potentially misleading content that could purportedly disrupt the democratic process.
“We believe this approach will allow us to better understand potential risks and build the right safeguards for the use of Generative AI in ads that relate to potentially sensitive topics in regulated industries,” Meta said in a community note.
