Technology giant Google has implemented a new watermark system on images generated by its artificial intelligence technology as a way to combat misinformation.
Any images made on Google’s text to image AI platform, Imagen, will be directly embedded with an invisible watermark by the new technology, known as SynthID.
SynthID will also be capable of scanning inputted images for the invisible watermark to determine if they were generated by Imagen.
“While this technology isn’t perfect, our internal testing shows that it’s accurate against many common image manipulations,” the company revealed in a blog post.
