Google has disallowed its AI chatbot Gemini from answering questions about global elections in an effort to steer clear of potential problems during the deployment process.
“In preparation for the many elections happening around the world in 2024 and out of an abundance of caution, we are restricting the types of election-related queries for which Gemini will return responses,” a Google spokesperson.
When prompted to answer questions about elections, including the U.S. presidential election between Joseph Biden and Donald Trump, Reuters said Gemini responded with “I’m still learning how to answer this question. In the meantime, try Google Search.”
Gemini and other Google AI products are being closely reviewed after images created by the chatbot last month depicted historical inaccuracies. Google CEO Sundar Pichai called the Gemini’s reponses “biased” and “completely unacceptable.”
