Competitors Apple and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, are supposedly in discussions to integrate Meta’s generative AI model into Apple’s soon-to-come AI system for iPhones, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Apple is reportedly also in talks with other AI companies in countries such as China where ChatGPT, the OpenAI chatbot backed by Microsoft, is banned. Additionally, a start-up company, Anthropic, has been having a conversation with Apple to bring its generative AI to Apple Intelligence.
None of the deals, including the one with Meta, have been closed and have the potential to fall through. However, the Journal noted that any AI company that partnered with Apple would have their product distribution numbers boosted.
Apple announced its AI strategy earlier this month, saying that it would utilize Apple Intelligence technology in a number of its apps, including Siri, as well as bring ChatGPT to its devices.
