The U.S. restaurant industry faced major challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, with some of the international crisis’ effects resulting in permanent changes industry-wide.
For one, many restaurants have shrunk or altogether eliminated their on-site dining rooms in favor of take-out service.
Likewise, most restaurants have adopted delivery as an indispensable fixture of their business models to adapt to customers’ demands.
However, a current surplus of industry jobs and a lack of available workers caused by mass layoffs at the beginning of the pandemic has put many restaurants’ livelihoods in jeopardy, begging the question of whether the industry as a whole will be able to find its feet again in the post-Covid world.
