Without access to staple networks like sports broadcasting channel ESPN over Labor Day weekend, Spectrum subscribers learned that cable contract disputes can very well interfere with consumers’ holiday fun and games.
Media giant Disney and Spectrum’s provider, cable giant Charter Communications, have been unable to reach renewed distribution deals, leaving more than 15 million Spectrum subscribers without access to Disney-owned channels.
As a result, channels like ESPN, ABC, FX and Freeform currently remain off Spectrum subscribers’ cable offerings.
With Monday night football set to begin airing on ESPN just next week, Spectrum’s sports fans remain hoping their cable provider can pull off a negotiation hail mary ahead of the coveted sporting event, or Spectrum may otherwise fumble countless subscriptions into the hands of their competitors.
