China has announced that it will restrict the export of two key minerals used in semiconductors, solar panels and missile systems.
The Asian country controls two-thirds of the world’s lithium and cobalt, which are essential for making electric cars.
The country is also the source of nearly 60% of the world’s aluminum, also used in EV batteries, and 80% of polysilicon, an ingredient in solar panels.
The announcement came after a visit by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen intended to pressure China into practicing fairer trade.
