Instagram’s new Threads app was downloaded more than 30 million times in its first 16 hours, and Twitter has threatened legal action against its new rival.
Threads, Instagram’s new app for real-time, public conversations, was launched Wednesday and was an immediate success.
By the following day, some of Twitter’s most-followed users had begun posting on the new platform.
Lawyers for Twitter said Thursday that the company would take legal action against Meta, owners of Threads, for using trade secrets from its former employees to build Threads.
