In a public address to the White House on Tuesday, President Donald Trump and Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced plans for the U.S. to “take over” Gaza in an attempt to create “great stability to that part of the Middle East.”
During his address, Trump stated, “everybody I’ve spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land,” however despite this assurance, the Gaza plan has faced global outrage.
Foreign ministries from a growing list of countries have spoken out against President Trump’s plan, including Saudi Arabia, China, Türkiye, France, The UK, Brazil, and Australia.
When asked if his latest policy contradicts the two-state solution that the U.S. has supported for decades, Trump responded, “It doesn’t mean anything about a two-state or one state or any other state. It means that we want to have, we want to give people a chance at life,” he said. “They have never had a chance at life because the Gaza Strip has been a hellhole for people living there. It’s been horrible.”
Trump did not rule out sending in U.S. troops to secure the area. “We will own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.”
The President’s plan will involve leveling destroyed buildings to “create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.” During his intended construction of the “Riviera of the Middle East”, Trump urged neighboring countries to accept the Palestinians who live in Gaza with “humanitarian hearts”.
