President Trump has called the current economic situation “an economic emergency” as his administration prepares to appeal to the high court today.
Trump stated that his team is requesting an urgent hearing from the Supreme Court today in hopes of overturning an appeals court’s ruling deeming most of his tariffs illegal.
Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, American businesses have paid over $210 billion in tariffs. On Tuesday, Trump acknowledged that if the Supreme Court upholds its decision, the U.S. Treasury might need to refund the collected tariff revenue.
“It’s a very important decision, and frankly, if they make the wrong decision, it would be a devastation for our country,” Trump stated. “If we don’t win that decision, you’ll see a reverberation like maybe you’ve never seen before.”
The appeals court scheduled October 14 as the date when its decision to reverse tariffs will become effective.
