The largest international crossing between Canada and the US remained was closed on early Tuesday morning hours due to Canadian protests against COVID-19 rules, reopening later in the morning.
The protests started January 29th as truckers were required to be fully vaccinated or to face testing and quarantine requirements on entrance to Canada. The protests have exacerbated worries of supply chain security in a highly integrated automotive production corridor.
On Monday the Canadian capital Ottawa declared a state of emergency as truckers shut down the city’s center in what they have dubbed the “Freedom Convoy”.
“This pandemic has sucked for all Canadians, but Canadians know the way to get through it is continuing to listen to science, continuing to lean on each other, continuing to be there for each other,” said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday.
