Snap CEO Evan Spiegel believes TikTok can overtake Instagram.
As TikTok’s download count is rapidly growing, Evan Spiegel, Snapchat CEO, said there is a possibility that TikTok will beat Facebook’s Instagram in terms of popularity.
When speaking at the Digital Life Design (DLD) Conference in Munich on Sunday, January 19th, Spiegel said on stage “I love TikTok, i’m a big fan.” He also said that TikTok prefers talent over likes. “People who have spent a couple of hours learning a new dance or think about a fun new creative way to tell a story, and they’re really making media to entertain other people,” he added, explaining the rise of the Chinese app that came out of nowhere to become the second-most downloaded app in the world in 2019. It was the second most-downloaded app of 2019 globally.
Facebook has attempted to similarly mimic TikTok, with the 2018 roll out of Lasso, a nearly identical app to TikTok. However, TikTok has shown few signs of slowing down.
