When he called a “game time decision” his participation to play the 2022 Masters edition, golf legend Tiger Woods’ was under the spotlight for another reason: one logo was missing in his outfit.

During his arrival in the course at Augusta National Golf Club, the 15-time Major championships winner decided to change his traditional Nike footwear, raising questions on his relationship with sponsors.

After all it was the horrific car-accident he suffered Feb. 2021, where he severely injured his legs, the reason why the famous Nike swoosh was missing from his feet.

“I have very limited mobility now. Just with the rods and plates and screws that are in my leg, I needed something different, something that allowed me to be more stable,” Woods said ending the speculation.

The first ever billionaire athlete in history is estimated to have earned over $1.5 billion from endorsements, appearances and course design fees since turning pro in 1996, according to Forbes highest paid athletes ranking. Despite being inactive recovering from the crash last year, Woods earned the 12th spot in the 2021 edition. A true magnet for sponsors, Tiger Woods has been affiliated with Nike all his career even having his own Air Zoom shoes. For Augusta he will use FootJoy shoes.
