President Donald Trump has continued to pile on negative comments about Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Trump’s remarks follow a disastrous day on Wall Street, during which the U.S. dollar index fell to its lowest level in three years.
Since Powell’s address in Chicago last week, where he stated that the Feds would not lower interest rates any time soon, President Trump has taken to social media to insult the Fed Chair in a way that some analysts have labeled “schoolyard insults.”
President Trump took to Truth Social stating: “With these costs trending so nicely downward, just what I predicted they would do, there can almost be no inflation, but there can be a SLOWING of the economy unless Mr. Too Late, a major loser, lowers interest rates, NOW.”
The President has quashed speculations that he will fire the Fed Chair, stating, “If I want [Powell] out, he’ll be out of there real fast, believe me.”
Despite the President’s comments unsettling investors, U.S. stock futures edged slightly higher today.
