Today, Samsung Electronics implemented leadership changes that indicate the tech giant seeks to strengthen its competitiveness in the semiconductor market.
The South Korean company announced today that it has nominated CTO Song Jai-hyuk and Chip Business Chief Jun Young-hyun to join its board.
In the regulatory filing, Samsung also announced that it has nominated chip expert and semiconductor researcher Professor Lee Hyuk-jae to serve as an external director.
Experts believe that Samsung’s promotion of two chip executives and one semiconductor academic to its board demonstrates a shift in the company’s semiconductor business to strengthen its position in the chip market.
Since 2024, the company has fallen behind in the chip business, having lost HBM opportunities to domestic rival SK Hynix.
SK Hynix, a partner of NVIDIA, offers a more advanced 12-layer HBM product compared to Samsung, which must now work to keep pace with its competitors.
