Today, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced an antitrust investigation into U.S. semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm over its acquisition of Israel’s Autotalks.
China’s market regulator said on Friday the probe would look at whether Qualcomm violated China’s antitrust law by not lawfully declaring some details in its acquisition of the Israeli chip designer.
The investigation follows the San Diego-based chip giant’s recent deal with Autotalks in June, aimed at preventing car crashes. Following discussions, the company did not disclose the deal’s size or how it had resolved previous sticking points.
In 2024, Qualcomm announced it would withdraw its bid for Autotalks after failing to obtain regulatory approvals on time.
Qualcomm’s shares fell 2.8% in premarket trading following the announcement.
