This week, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held meetings with leading U.S. bank CEOs to address potential cyber threats associated with Anthropic’s new Mythos model, which was rolled out this week.
According to a confidential source, the bank heads were already in Washington, D.C., for another meeting when a special gathering was convened to discuss Mythos.
The cybersecurity initiative known as Project Glasswing includes launch partners such as banking giant JPMorgan Chase, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia.
Earlier this week, Anthropic introduced the new artificial intelligence model on a limited basis due to concerns that hackers might exploit its capabilities.
An official from Anthropic confirmed that they are engaged in ongoing discussions with U.S. agencies, including the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the Center for AI Standards and Innovation, regarding the cyber capabilities of Claude Mythos Preview.
The news comes just months after Anthropic announced it had secured a court order blocking a Trump administration ban on the government using its AI technology, after the creator of the Claude chatbot argued that the ban could lead to billions in revenue loss.
Anthropic shares stayed steady in premarket trading following the announcement.
