Despite 2,000 of the globe’s largest companies committing to work toward net-zero carbon emissions, only 4% of said businesses have reached the goals set by the United Nations’ Race to Zero campaign, said Net Zero Tracker.
When looking at those reportedly on target to reach the goals, only 37% of the companies had addressed emissions tied directly to the company’s value chain.
Likewise, only 13% of on-track companies met the quality threshold for carbon offsets.
“A clear line in the sand on net zero has surfaced,” said Net Zero Tracker Project Lead John Lang. “Countless net zero targets are credibility light, but now we can say for certain that most of the world’s largest listed companies are on the right side of the line on net zero intent.”
