The number of job openings in the US remained unchanged in December 2021, according to the latest US Bureau of Labor Statistics, with nine states seeing an increase and six states seeing a decrease.
The largest increase occurred in Pennsylvania where 73,000 openings occurred, followed by New Jersey with 29,000 and Minnesota with 28,000. The largest decreases in number of opening occurred in New york with 52,000, Michigan with 24,000 and Ohio with 22,000.
Other notable changes on a state level in the labor situation reported in December were a 2.1% decrease in hires in Hawaii, a 2.2% increase in total separations in Alaska, a 2.1% decrease in total separations in New Hampshire.
New Hampshire also saw the number of quits decline by 1.6%. The largest increase in number of job openings was reported in Wyoming at 1.8%.
