The Transportation Security Administration has unveiled two self-service security lines at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, and they will be open for use to the public next week.
The security lines use video monitors, body scanners and facial recognition software that allows a passenger to go at their own pace and have minimal interaction with TSA agents. The screening process will only be available to passengers with TSA PreCheck clearance; those without are still able to go through traditional security screening.
Although TSA officers will be nearby, there will be fewer than those heading up the traditional security screenings. Travelers can also press a button to speak to an agent via video monitor.
The pilot at Las Vegas’ airport will run for several months. After collecting data and traveler feedback, it may eventually roll out to other airports.
