Today, Airbus announced that it has appointed Lars Wagner as the new CEO of its commercial aircraft division.
Wagner, 50, is currently the CEO of MTU Aero Engines AG in Munich and has held this position since January 2023. Since joining the company in 2015, he has served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President overseeing OEM operations.
Prior to those roles, he held various management roles at Airbus in Bremen, Hamburg, and Toulouse.
Wagner will join the company in early November 2025 to ensure a smooth transition from the current CEO, Christian Scherer, who has served as CEO for two years and is set to retire after 40 years with Airbus.
Wagner will officially become CEO starting January 1, 2026.
The announcement coincides with Airbus expanding its operations, driven by an increase in customer orders after a turbulent year for rival Boeing, whose safety and reliability reputation has been tarnished.
Today, the plane manufacturer’s shares rose following the announcement.
