Facebook has signed a lease for a massive new office in NYC’s Hudson Yards.
Rumors that said the tech giant was holding discussions to take about 1 million square feet in Manhattan’s newest neighborhood finally clarified after reports from Business Insider announced that Facebook has signed a lease for a massive new office in New York City’s Hudson Yards development.
This means that the social media giant will occupy over 1.5 million square feet of office space throughout three buildings and 30 floors beginning in 2020 without mentioning how many employees it will have in the new facility, Hudson Yards announced on Thursday, November 14th. The company’s headquarters are currently in Menlo Park, California, while its current Manhattan office is in Greenwich Village, near the Astor Place neighborhood.
John Tenanes, Facebook’s vice president of global facilities and real state, said in a statement vía CNBC:
“When considering the next phase of our growth in the city, it was important that our newest office space was situated in the heart of a vibrant community that offered access to arts, culture, media and commerce (…) Hudson Yards offered this and more, and we’re excited to expand our offices there starting in 2020.”
Hudson Yards, the $25 billion luxury and commercial real estate development, that opened in March 2019, includes several skyscrapers, restaurants, a cultural center, a large mall, and a 150-foot-tall sculpture called “The Vessel.” It sits on 14 acres of public space and comprising 18 million square feet.
