Today, HSBC announced that Lisa McGeough has officially been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer for the United States, effective immediately.
“Becoming the US CEO for HSBC is one of the highest professional highlights of my career,” McGeough told investors, “I am extremely excited to capture the immense opportunity in the financial capital of the world. With this talented team, and our unmatched expertise, we will continue to deliver for our clients here in the US, and around the world.”
McGeough has over 35 years of experience in the banking industry and has previously been part of the executive team at Wells Fargo. She is transitioning to the CEO role from her position as Co-Head of Global Banking Coverage, where she had regional responsibility for Global Banking in Europe. Based in New York City, McGeough will lead growth in the United States by overseeing the expansion of the newly integrated wholesale business, Corporate and Institutional Banking, in North America.
Michael Roberts, the new CEO of HSBC, said, “The US remains a critical market for HSBC’s global growth strategy. With Lisa’s leadership, expertise, and deep understanding of our business, I am confident that she will drive our US operations forward, acting as a super-connector between the US and the rest of the world. Together, we will continue to deliver best-in-class products and services to our clients.”
Today’s appointment marks the first female CEO in the HSBC US region in over a decade and only the second in the company’s 150-year history.
