Longtime Republican and Home Depot founder Ken Langone has expressed his anger against Trump’s tariffs, describing them as “too aggressive, too soon.”
In an interview on Monday, Langone warned that the Trump Administration’s inflated tariffs, particularly in the Asian market, did not allow “serious negotiations a chance to work. “
“Forty-six per cent on Vietnam? Come on! You might as well tell them, ‘Don’t even bother calling,” Langone added that the tariffs were “too high” and implemented “too quickly”.
Langone, echoing Elon Musk’s sentiment a few days earlier, stated that he believes Trump is being “poorly advised.”
Langone joins a growing list of billionaires opposed to Trump’s tariffs. Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller, a mentor to Republican Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, posted on X: “I do not support tariffs exceeding 10%.”
Another significant donor to Trump’s campaign, Bill Ackman, weighed in, stating that the Trump Administration has made “a major policy error.”
Wilbur Ross, Trump’s former commerce secretary, admitted that tariffs had a significant negative impact on many parts of the world: “Particularly, the way it is impacting Vietnam, China, and Cambodia is more extreme than I would have thought.”
Bessent has revealed that “Maybe almost 70” nations have reached out to Trump since last week, with the Secretary of Treasury admitting that talks may last for months. “It’s going to be a busy April, May, maybe into June,” he stated.
