General Motors today announced that it will transfer the listing of its common stock to the Nasdaq Global Select Market from the NYSE.
The Common Stock is expected to continue to be listed under the NYSE ticker symbol “GM” through market close on November 16, 2026.
The company expects to begin trading on Nasdaq on November 17, 2026. After the transfer to Nasdaq, the Common Stock will continue trading under the symbol “GM.”
GM CFO Paul Jacobson told investors: “GM’s customer-focused, technology-driven strategy is creating value for our stockholders, making Nasdaq a natural home for our listing as we grow. We’re grateful for our long-standing partnership with the New York Stock Exchange and its remarkable legacy.”
GM noted, “A Nasdaq listing also provides eligibility for potential inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index.”
The move represents a notable loss for the NYSE, where GM was first listed in 1911. The Detroit-based automaker also relisted on the exchange in 2010 following a government-backed bankruptcy.
GM’s decision follows a technology-focused event the automaker held last week, where CEO Mary Barra outlined the company’s roadmap for self-driving vehicle technologies.
GM shares have more than doubled since 2024. They rose almost 1% in premarket trading following the announcement.
