Tech giants Foxconn and SoftBank have announced today that they have agreed to manufacture data center equipment in Ohio for the latest Stargate project, a joint venture between SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle to improve U.S. artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The announcement comes after Foxconn struck a deal earlier this month to sell its former car factory in Lordstown, Ohio, to Softbank for $375 million, including its machinery.
The Stargate project was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump in January, who stated that the companies would invest up to $500 billion in the U.S.
Foxconn Chairman Young Liu told reporters, “We understand that for this project, the first priorities are power, venue, and timing — it cannot be delayed for too long. Taking all these factors into account, we believe Ohio is a very suitable location, and SoftBank shares this view.”
