ESPN, Fox and Warner Bros. are launching a sports streaming platform this fall that will cover the four major leagues and at least 15 networks.
“This means the full suite of ESPN channels will be available to consumers alongside the sports programming of other industry leaders as part of a differentiated sports-centric service,” said Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger.
The service will offer games from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, NASCAR, golf, tennis, the FIFA World Cup and NASCAR. Subscribers would get access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN+, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ABC, Fox, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, TNT, TBS and truTV, and they would be able to bundle the platform with Disney+, Hulu and/or Max.
Each company will have one-third ownership in the platform, whose name and pricing structure have not yet been announced. The move comes as ESPN has been seeking partners amid plans to launch a direct-to-consumer product in the next couple of years.
