Delta Airlines has announced the end of its eight-year partnership with rideshare company Lyft.
Delta’s SkyMiles loyalty program members will instead be offered premium rides with Uber, according to the latest press release from the rideshare company. “We’re excited to share that beginning this spring, Uber will be Delta’s exclusive rideshare and delivery partner in the U.S. Together, we’re teaming up to offer Uber customers the opportunity to earn Delta SkyMiles when they ride and order,” Uber’s press release stated.
“With a record number of travelers taking to the skies, we’re focused on helping to make your airport travel journey as efficient, affordable, and effortless as possible,” Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi said.
Delta CEO, Ed Bastian told investors, “Delta is thrilled to come together with Uber to create a connected travel experience from start to finish. This partnership creates more choice for customers to get to their destination in a way that works best for them.”
A Delta spokesperson said, “We are appreciative of the partnership we’ve had with Lyft benefiting loyal customers who have collectively earned billions of miles.”
In a statement to investors, a Lyft spokesperson said, “We’re continuing to expand our horizons by joining forces with major brands who share our customer obsession, like Alaska Airlines, Chase, DoorDash, Mastercard, Hilton, Disney, and Bilt.”
Delta will complete its transition from Lyft to Uber before the peak summer travel season.
